SACRED HEART PARISH

ADULT RELIGIOUS FORMATION TEAM

February 12, 2013

PRESENT:  Sister Rebecca Otter, Father Warren Stecklein, Lynne Eck, and Regis Lopata

ABSENT:  Sister Irene Hartman, Elaine Coulson, and Diane Dodez

The minutes of the meeting of November 13, 2012 were reviewed and approved.

Future subjects of the “So Glad You Asked” column in the Sacred Heart Beat were discussed.  Lynne reviewed the article for the March issue about how Catholics view our relationship with the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Sister Irene will have the April issue on the papacy, and Sister Rebecca will write an article on May crowning for the May issue.  For the June issue, we may ask a guest columnist for an article regarding stewardship and global warming.

There was discussion about study groups in the parish for the Year of Faith.  Groups will be hosted by the following individuals or couples: Mary Klinge, Lynne and Roger Eck, Michael and Marissa Klemens, Joan Molleker, Dee and Roger Myers, and Colleen Carlson.  There was some discussion about parishioners who could be invited to attend one of the groups.  Copies of the material will be provided for each person and/or couple participating in the groups.

The Holy Hour/Adoration for this month will involve Vespers and quiet time for prayer.  At the March Holy Hour, we may have a presentation on the seven last words of Christ, and in April we will focus on spring, planting, farming, and Earth Day.  At the May Holy Hour/Adoration, we may focus on issues related to employment, unemployment, underemployment, and health insurance.

The next meeting of the Adult Religious Formation Team will be on April 9, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sisters’ house.

ADULT RELIGIOUS FORMATION TEAM

November 13, 2012

PRESENT:  Sister Irene Hartman, Sister Rebecca Otter, Diane Dodez, Lynne Eck, and Regis Lopata

ABSENT:  Father Warren Stecklein, Elaine Coulson

The minutes of the meeting of September 4, 2012 were reviewed and approved.

Future subjects of the “So Glad You Asked” column in the Sacred Heart Beat were discussed.  Sister Rebecca will have the December issue on Advent; Sister Irene will write for the January newsletter about welcoming people back to the Church; Diane will do the February article on the Sign of the Cross; and Lynne will have the March issue about Catholics not worshipping the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The team discussed the recent parish centennial celebration.  The team members thought that the celebration was beautifully done and many positive comments were received from parishioners.

There was discussion about developing study groups in the parish for the Year of Faith.  The materials for these groups were reviewed during the meeting.  Lynne indicated that she and her husband would be hosting one of the groups.  Sister Irene reported that she visited with Mary Kerns about hosting a different group.  Diane will talk to a couple (the Carlson’s) from Burdett about doing so; Sister Rebecca will speak to LuAnn Pankratz about this; and Regis will visit with Michael and Marissa Klemens about hosting a group.  There was discussion about how to involve other parishioners who might want to be in such a group, but are not specifically invited by one of the hosts.  No specific decision was made about this, however.  We also have magnets for the Year of Faith which we will hand out to parishioners after the Masses on the weekend of January 5th and 6th.  Regis and Lynne will hand out the magnets after the Saturday Mass, while Diane and Sister Rebecca will do so after Mass on Sunday.

The Holy Hour/Adoration for this month will be devoted to reviewing the blessings that were written by parishioners earlier this month, and the team members sorted these blessings in preparation for this.  There will not be a Holy Hour/Adoration in December, and the one in January will focus on church unity.

It was decided that we would not do an exchange of names in the parish for Advent this year.  Plans are being made for processions with Advent candles for each of the Masses during that season.  This will be done differently than in previous years.

Some of the team members will be involved in bell ringing for the Salvation Army next month.

The next meeting of the Adult Religious Formation Team will be on January 15, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sisters’ house.

September 4, 2012

PRESENT:  Sister Irene Hartman, Sister Rebecca Otter, Father Warren Stecklein, Diane Dodez, Lynne Eck, and Regis Lopata

            ABSENT: Elaine Coulson

The minutes of the meeting of June 12, 2012 were reviewed and approved.

We have not heard anything from Elaine about her membership on the team.  There was discussion about several individuals who might be considered as possible team members.  These people will be contacted to determine if they might be interested and available as future team members.

The team discussed themes for upcoming Eucharistic adorations:

September 19th: prayer for students, teachers, and parents

October 17th: gratitude for the past 100 years of Sacred Heart Parish and initiating             the Year of Faith

November 20th: this will be on a Tuesday, as the regular Wednesday adoration for             that month would be the evening before Thanksgiving.  The theme for this       adoration is thanksgiving for the many blessings we have received.  We            will ask parishioners to write blessings on pieces of paper at the masses on the weekend of November 3rd and 4th.  We will then give thanks for these         blessings at the adoration.

There was discussion about the “So Glad You Asked” articles published recently in the Sacred Heart Beat.  Sister Irene wrote an article for the October issue, which the team reviewed.  Regis will write one on what parishioners can do to assist with RCIA.  There was some discussion about future topics.

The Year of Faith begins in October of this year.  As part of celebrating this, we will use a faith prayer during masses beginning that month.  In addition, during January, we will give parishioners magnets with information about increasing our faith.  The team also discussed asking some couples in the parish to invite friends to their home on several occasions to discuss faith issues.  These discussions could occur during Lent or on a quarterly basis through the year.

The team discussed the recent “Fortnight for Freedom”.  Our parish complied with the request of the Bishop that we do something for this, as we prayed a rosary on a daily basis for religious freedom.  A couple of parishioners offered their thanks for these daily rosaries.

The team was asked to address invitations for our parish centennial celebration, which was done after the meeting.

The next meeting of the Adult Religious Formation Team will be on November 13, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sisters’ house.

SACRED HEART PARISH

ADULT RELIGIOUS FORMATION TEAM

June 12, 2012

PRESENT:  Sister Irene Hartman, Sister Rebecca Otter, Father Warren Stecklein, Diane Dodez, Lynne Eck, Regis Lopata, and Tylan Ricketts

ABSENT: Elaine Coulson

Team members welcomed Tylan Ricketts to the meeting.  He is currently a seminarian in our diocese, and is spending the summer with Father Warren.

The minutes of the meeting of April 10, 2012 were reviewed and approved.

It was noted that Elaine Coulson has been unable to attend meetings recently due to other obligations.  The team considered whether another individual should be asked to be a part of the team, but no specific decisions were made at this time.

The team completed the review of our original charter, which still appears to be appropriate at the present time.

There was discussion about a series of articles about baptism and returning Catholics written by Sister Irene called “So Glad You Asked”.  The articles were reviewed and a few minor changes were suggested.  These articles will be printed one at a time in the Sacred Heart Beat.  Suggestions for additional articles were made, such as on making the Sign of the Cross, using holy water, and RCIA.  These articles will be written for future editions of the Sacred Heart Beat.

The team agreed that we will not attempt to have a parish mission this year due to our centennial events.

The team decided that the theme for Adoration on June 20th will be on religious liberty.  The next day begins a two week “Fortnight for Freedom” in which the nation’s bishops are asking Catholics to pray for religious liberty in our country.  The team decided that our parish will pray a rosary every day during this period.  Most of the rosaries will be before masses and the schedule and leaders for them is as follows:

                        June 21            8:00 a.m.         Sister Irene

                        June 22            12:00 p.m.       Tylan

                        June 23            4:30 p.m.         Regis

                        June 24            10:00 a.m.       assigned parishioners

                        June 25            7:00 a.m.         Dr. Brenner

                        June 26            8:00 a.m.         Sister Rebecca

                        June 27            6:00 p.m.         Regis

                        June 28            8:00 a.m.         Tylan

                        June 29            12:00 p.m.       Sister Rebecca

                        June 30            4:30 p.m.         Rita and David O’Gwin

                        July 1               10:00 a.m.       assigned parishioners

                        July 2               7:00 a.m.         Dr. Brenner

                        July 3               8:00 a.m.         Sister Irene

                        July 4               10:30 a.m.       Tylan

The team agreed that the Adoration scheduled for July will be a quiet time of prayer and adoration.

It was announced that the Church will be having a Year of Faith from August, 2012 through July, 2013.  The team will be considering some things to do for this period.

The next meeting of the Adult Religious Formation Team will be on September 4, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sisters’ house.

ADULT RELIGIOUS FORMATION TEAM

April 10, 2012

PRESENT:  Sister Irene Hartman, Sister Rebecca Otter, Father Warren Stecklein, Diane Dodez, and Regis Lopata                        ABSENT:  Elaine Coulson, Lynne Eck

The minutes of the meeting of February 21, 2012 were reviewed and approved.

The team reviewed the presentation of the video on Reconciliation, which was shown in the parish several times during Lent.  We did not have a lot of parishioners attend the showings, but the video was appreciated and enjoyed by those who attended.

The team also reviewed our faith-sharing sessions during Lent, using the “Disciples on the Journey” booklets.  The team had a positive response to these sessions, and will consider using the same program for faith-sharing sessions for the parish next year in Lent.  We will do some planning for these sessions before the start of the Lenten season.

Sister Irene announced that we have not been informed at this time of any involvement of this team in the parish centennial celebration.

There was some discussion about membership on the ARF team, but no specific decisions were made at this time.  This will be discussed again in a future meeting.

The team members reviewed the charter that had been developed with Father Bernard Felix when he appointed this team.  The team has completed some, but not all of the expected outcomes that were listed in our charter.

Adoration is scheduled for the parish on April 18th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.  The theme of the adoration will be on vocations.

Regis announced that there will be a diocesan-wide training on RCIA presented on the ITV network on April 18th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Several members of the ARF team plan to attend the training.

There was considerable discussion regarding the possibility of having a parish mission or some type of speaker for the parish in the future.  No specific decisions were made at this time, but this will again be considered in future meetings.

The next meeting of the Adult Religious Formation Team will be on June 12, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sisters’ house.

We have 4 new Eucharistic ministers. Mary will email these names to Fr Warren & Pam.

We have 2 new volunteers for the Food Bank. Mary will let Sharon McGinnis know so she can begin orienting.

b. Pam & Mary devised a note to be mailed to each parishioner who signed up for a new ministry. This postcard format was unanimously approved.

c. The postcard will thank these new volunteers, & inform them they will be contacted in early January if orientation is needed. This plan should insure that new ministers can be scheduled to begin in Feb.

Mary will address these postcards so they can be mailed within next 2wks, prioritizing the Mass ministries.

d. Colorbook Project—Brenda Langdon shared an idea submitted to her by a parishioner, involving the parish providing color books & crayons in the pews to entertain small children. A lengthy discussion ensued, with a general consensus for it to be a parental decision as to what small stuffed animals etc they might allow the very small children to bring to Mass. Fr Warren informed that the idea had also been submitted to the pastoral council. They are reviewing, & will have the final say.

e. Jim Mitchell has worked very hard in compiling a spreadsheet of current ministry participants. Mary will send him a thank you note.
