The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the pastoral process for initiating new members into the Church. RCIA was designed for unbaptized individuals (catechumens), but it is also the process through which persons who have been baptized in other Christian denominations (candidates) may enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. The RCIA process leads these individuals, and the entire parish community, through a conversion process that is celebrated in the liturgical seasons. Adult initiation becomes a major experience of resurrection and new life for the Church each year at the Easter vigil. In addition to catechumens and candidates, other individuals are welcome to attend RCIA sessions. This may include people who are just returning to the Church after being gone for some period of time, those who want to learn about the Church, but are not interested in becoming Catholic, or even members of our parish who want to renew or strengthen their faith.

Although the RCIA process is considered to be the work of the whole parish, Sacred Heart Church has a small group of dedicated individuals who specifically assist with this process. These individuals provide guidance and support for those seeking to become Catholic. RCIA sessions meet on Wednesday evenings at 7:15 p.m. throughout the school year, with a few exceptions for holidays.
